सीमन्तोन्नयन
Seemantham (Simantonnayana / Godh Bharai) in Hyderabad
సీమంతం
Also known as Godh Bharai, Seemanta Sanskar, Seemantha (Kannada), Simantonnayana
A traditional pregnancy blessing ceremony for the mother-to-be, with family and priest.
Sanskara. A rite of passage — the ceremonies that mark a life, not a calendar date. No fire is lit — nothing is burned indoors.
About this puja
Seemantham is performed during pregnancy, with the exact timing confirmed by the family's pandit. The pandit performs a puja seeking blessings for the mother's wellbeing, and as part of the ritual her hair is traditionally parted by her husband, followed by blessings and gifts from elders.
What the pandit performs
- Sankalpam and Ganapati puja
- Kalasha puja
- Simantonnayana: the woman's hair is ceremonially parted by her husband
- Tying of flowers/ornaments in her hair and gift-giving by elders
- Aarti and blessings for the mother and baby
Samagri included
- Turmeric
- Kumkum
- Flowers
- Fruits
- Tambulam (betel leaves and nuts)
- Bangles
- Kalasha (holy pot)
- Naivedyam
For E-Puja, samagri is arranged by the temple on your behalf.
