About this puja
This puja is performed on the main Sankranti day to thank Surya Bhagavan as the Sun begins its northward journey (Uttarayana). The pandit performs the sankalpam and Surya puja, and the family offers the new harvest's rice, sesame and jaggery as naivedyam, alongside the muggu/rangoli and Gobbemma traditions of the season.
